Disney's Camp Rock: The Musical is the latest show from BYTE Sized Productions and features about 50 children aged from eight to 18 years.
Fans of the two Disney Channel Camp Rock films will recognise their favourite songs while the plot is based on the second of the movies.
Camp Rock's very existence is threatened by the new, flashy Camp Star across the lake, with the camp leaders, once in the same band but now rivals, played by Border radio personalities Matt Griffith and Riley-Rose Harper.
Director Lauren Schmutter said preparations for the three public performances Friday and Saturday at Albury Entertainment Centre were going well.
"The kids have really, really brought their A game, they're doing such an amazing job," she said.
Bronte Wade (Mitchie) and Harry Partington (Shane) particularly are "doing an exceptional job".
About 150 children audition each year for the annual BYTE Sized musical and Camp Rock proved just as popular.
"We have got some regular faces but almost 50 per cent of the cast are brand new," Schmutter said.
"Because so many kids miss out each year, we always make sure we have a large percentage of the cast being brand new so everyone gets to have a go."
Previous productions have used backing tracks but this year, appropriately, a live rock band led by musical director Tim McLaren will accompany the singers.
Schmutter said the Disney connection and the rock music aspect attracted the production team to Camp Rock, as well as the dance component.
"Nearly all of the songs are big dance numbers, that's probably been our biggest challenge, co-ordinating all the children," she said.
"Visually, it's going to be spectacular for the audience."
Disney's Camp Rock: The Musical opens Friday, June 7, at 7pm, with two more performances Saturday, June 8, at 2pm and 7pm. Tickets can be booked through Albury Entertainment Centre.
