The heritage-listed building is being updated as part of a Transport NSW "major periodic maintenance program".

A Transport NSW spokesman said two areas of the roof are being replaced "using the original cast iron materials".
"The station is an important community asset," he said.
"We anticipate work to be completed in the next few weeks.
