The online petition on change.org described the pig, owned by Matthew Evans, as "such a gentle, friendly boy".
"He's a very friendly and well-mannered pig and many people stop to pat him and have their photo taken with him," it stated.
"Why should such a lovely animal be banned from our streets for no good reason at all?"

Some of the reasons listed for signing the petition were that Grunt is "a lovable family pet", had never been a problem and is adored by children.
Wangaratta Council says complaints have been made that the pig steals food and can get loose, and it has threatened Mr Evans with an $806 fine.
As of 1pm Friday, 2038 people had signed the petition.
