The awards, which were this year hosted by the Alcohol and Drug Foundation in Melbourne on Monday night, recognise and celebrate the achievements of individuals and organisations doing work to prevent and reduce the harm of alcohol and drugs in Australia.
Who's it Gonna Hurt? aimed to minimise risky drinking in males in the Wodonga area and used community consultation to determine the key drivers of alcohol use, resulting in messages around how alcohol can hurt your health, your wallet and your family.
Wodonga Council community planning and wellbeing manager Claire Taylor said they are "very proud" of the work they have done.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"No one organisation can do it alone. Culture change is difficult and requires a longer-term view of creating change," she said.
"This project demonstrates that together we can create interventions that we hope will have lasting impact on our community and be a part of shifting social norms that must be addressed to improve health and safety of all our people."
Michael Rose's nine month journey to reduce his drinking was the subject of the campaign and documentary which ran online, on TV and at the last race of Wodonga's Gold Cup.
Alcohol and Drug Foundation chief executive Erin Lalor said the awards were a "great opportunity to shine the spotlight on the hard work" being done to reduce and prevent harms caused by alcohol and other drugs.
"There are tireless efforts being made right across the country to prevent and minimise harms from alcohol and other drugs," Dr Lalor said.
"It's important that we recognise the significant contribution that campaigns like Who's it Gonna Hurt? make in building a better informed and healthier Australia."
