A TRUCK driver has been caught travelling at nearly double the speed limit in central Jindera.

Members of the highway patrol intercepted the vehicle on Urana Street about 7.10am yesterday.
The truck driver had entered a 50km/h residential area at high speed.
A check by police captured the vehicle at 96km/h.

A spokesman said the man had been aware of the speed limit.
"The driver was stopped and he informed police that he slowed down upon seeing the police vehicle and was aware of the speed limit as he had family that lived in the town," the spokesman said.
The driver was fined $1414 and incurred five demerit points for speeding more than 30km/h above the limit.
The truck driver appeared to have been transporting piping at the time and was pulled over by the police as the heavy vehicle entered the town.\
