Clashes against Boomers and leaders Wangaratta in the next two weeks will determine if they have what it takes to go all the way.
The Greens are three points and goal difference behind the Red Devils for top spot, but still believe they are right in the hunt.
Captain Caleb Martin admitted Wangaratta deserves to be in front at this stage, but his side won't be going away without a fight.
"They've (Wangaratta) got a very deadly attacking team and they've proven they can get results," Martin said.
"If we can keep winning and knock off Boomers and Wang in the coming weeks, we'll be equal on points.
"We just want to finish as high as we can.
"We don't take Boomers lightly at all, they've been a bit of a bogey side for us in the last few years.
"Whenever they've still got 'Grovesy' (Boomers coach Andrew Grove) and Pieter Noordewier in their side, they're going to be dangerous."
United's defence has been the key to its success, with the addition of goalkeeper Josh Fluss, young centre back Harris Lee and the return of Kris Wheeler.
While the Greens have scored the least number of goals of the top five sides (52), Martin is confident they have plenty of firepower.
"We had Gauthier (Robin) away for a few weeks, but obviously when he came back on the weekend we banged in a few goals against St Pats," Martin said.
"When we have him firing, we're pretty dangerous there as well."
ALSO IN SPORT:
Star Frenchman Robin is hoping to stay in Australia for another year, but hasn't decided whether that will be with Albury United or not.
Grove conceded the league title is more than likely out of reach for Boomers and wants to focus on preparation for finals.
"Part of that is trying to take some of these bigger scalps on the way into finals, so we know we can beat them when we get there," Grove said.
"They've (United) obviously got some stars up forward, but we couldn't break them down and really struggled going forward.
"Obviously we've got to keep their stars quiet and also have to figure out how to unlock that defence and get past 'Flussy' as well.
"The midfield is always going to be a tough battle as well with United's work rate."
Adam Griffith is away for the next three weeks, while Dylan Gavel is also unavailable for the clash.
"We've changed the team so often, it's difficult," he said.
"The good thing is everyone is getting lots of game time, so come the end of the year everyone should be fighting for spots, but we'd like to keep more of a settled team."
