The home affairs minister has ruled out bringing in an international recruit when Australian Federal Police chief Andrew Colvin stands down.
"We aren't seeking a candidate from overseas - we've got some excellent talent here domestically," Mr Dutton told 2GB radio on Thursday.
"We're working through a shortlist of names at the moment."
Mr Colvin will leave the AFP at the end of September when his five-year contract expires, drawing a close to a 30-year career in law enforcement.
