Danelle Filby, 38, died suddenly at the family home on Sunday, July 28 after reportedly becoming unwell with flu-like symptoms in the previous days.
Her husband James Filby, 38, was admitted to hospital on Wednesday with pneumonia and suffering from exhaustion, dehydration and flu symptoms also, according to his brother Dezi Freeman (Filby), of Mount Buffalo.
He said extended family were caring for their beautiful boys Taj, 15, Zane, 13, Ari, 10, and Lawson, 9.
Mrs Filby has been described as a "caring, generous and community-minded person who would be the first to help anyone in need".
She was a devoted mother - "the heart of the home" - who home-schooled her sons and treasured family.
Neighbours, community groups and the local primary school are working behind the scenes to support the family - from help with fundraising to deliveries of food and firewood.
A gofundme page has been set up by friends to cover funeral costs, immediate bills, food and to assist with finishing the family home, which Danelle and James were building themselves for the past three years.
Mr Freeman said family and friends were still reeling from his sister-in-law's sudden passing and the plight of his brother James.
"Our dad died at the age of 86 on July 10 last year and we had planned a memorial gathering this year at the property where his ashes are buried," he said.
"James initially contacted me to say the two older boys had the flu and could we do the catch-up the next week.
"Then one of the little ones got sick and James was worried everyone was contagious so we left it another week."
On the weekend of July 27 and 28, James again contacted his brother to say Danelle was "feeling crook".
On Sunday, James became so worried about his wife that he called an ambulance but tragically she died at their home.
"To know Danelle was to love her," Mr Freeman posted on Facebook.
"With my brother James, she has raised four awesome boys that are a blessing to this earth.
To know Danelle was to love her.
- Brother-in-law Dezi Freeman
"She cured her MS naturally about seven years ago and has shared her experience on the internet."
Mr Freeman said in the immediate aftermath of his wife's death, his brother was overcome emotionally and physically.
"On Monday night his energy was sapped and he was taken to hospital and put on an IV drip," he said.
"Then on Wednesday night he went back in and was put on a drip with antibiotics and he is expected to be there for the next week - tests confirmed he has Influenza B."
Mr Freeman said it was incredible to see the community stepping in to help.
"The support from people has been amazing," he said.
The gofundme page, with a $100,000 target, is reaching out to the wider community.
"The support will mean the Filby family is able to focus on healing and still have opportunities to develop as young men without their mother during these vital years," it states.
Mrs Filby's funeral is expected to be held at the Wodonga Baptist Church after coronial investigations.
