JULY

The High Street property formerly occupied by Erlandsen's was sold to J. Mann & Son P/L. The building was soon to be demolished.

Abe Bounader, well-known proprietor of the Melba Theatre commenced a new business venture selling tyres and firefighting equipment. Premises on the corner of High Street and Melbourne Road.

While Uncle Ben's is under construction in Kelly Street, a temporary office was set up in Hovell Street.

AUGUST

A combined meeting between Albury and Wodonga councils and hospitals this week agreed that there is a definite need in this area for a centre to care for elderly people. At least 80 patients on both sides of the border could use such a centre immediately.

There was a shock announcement that the Wodonga and District Express was to be curtailed, as they had been unable to fill the advertised position of linotype machine operator over the last six months. Public outcry resulted in the announcement a week later that the publication would be produced monthly.

One of Wodonga's oldest established factories had been sold. The Wodonga Cordial Company trading under the name "Belvoir". Purchased by the Tarax Ale Brewing Co., Lindsay Stephens remained as company manager.

SEPTEMBER

The first monthly edition was printed. The size went from 8 to 16 pages and the price rose from 3 to 5 cents.

The Stanley Street pool, which had opened in 1959, required renewal of damaged tiling, therefore, there could be a delayed opening date for the season.

Cr. A. Terrill was re-elected shire president and his allowance was fixed at $800, a rise of $300 on the previous year. An additional allowance of $150 each would come from the Water Trust and the Sewerage Authority.

OCTOBER

The Egg Appeal launched by Wodonga Hospital last month was not going well. To date, less than nine dozen had been received from private individuals and 109 dozen from schools. The total last year had been 712 dozen.

Consent had been sought by council to sell the existing library site (now Middleton's Carpets).
