It was a close tussle for the first three quarters with Saints' defenders Taylor Morey and Danielle Walsh standing tall in the win, with Walsh battling a minor thigh injury.
Saints' Georgette Meunier and Dederang's Sarah Mellington also had a strong battle through the midcourt.
Saints' coach Gina Skinner said it was a hard fought victory for her side.
"We made some changes throughout the game to help us through the next couple of rounds and it paid off for us," Skinner said.
The Saints' still remain in seventh spot on the ladder and are just outside breaking into the top six with two rounds to go.
Ladder leaders Rutherglen will be their next opponent before a final round clash with Wahgunyah.
Skinner admitted it will take a bit of luck to burst into the top six before finals commence.
"We're going to try and put up a good fight next weekend against Rutherglen and hopefully have a good win against Wahgunyah," Skinner said.
"We'll just hope that our percentage gets us across the line."
Both Wodonga Saints and Dederang Mount Beauty also acknowledged Black Dog round during the weekend's clash, using the day as a fundraiser for the Black Dog Institute.
"It's good to get the word out there and for people to talk and speak up if they have any issues they want to talk about," Skinner said.
