Billabong Crows rattled top side Howlong on Saturday dishing the Spiders' up just their second loss for the season.
But Howlong have still managed to hold onto the sought after number one position, edging the Crows out by percentage after the eight-goal loss.
Crows' defender Harriet Simpson matched up well with Howlong shooter Tahnee Klippel-Thorpe, while it was also a good tussle between Crows' Brooke Morley and Howlong's Emma Bridle.
"Our defenders really kept us in there," Crows' coach Holly Dowling said.
"Right from the start it was a really solid game and both teams came out strong.
"It's really put things into perspective on how tough finals are going to be.
"Hopefully we can bring that across come finals time."
Just three rounds remain before finals get underway in the Hume league netball competition, with both the Spiders and Crows one win clear of Jindera and the Giants.
