Trailing 3-2, Barbero found the back of the net much to the delight of coach Josh O'Farrell.
"Melrose probably deserved the points to be honest," O'Farrell said.
"They played out of their skin.
"They always seem to play their best football against us.
"We were probably a bit lucky in the end."
Maya Davis was outstanding up front for Melrose.
Albury United snapped a four-match losing streak with a 3-0 victory over Boomers.
The dangerous Alicia Torcaso scored a hat-trick for the victors as United's midfield took complete control of the match.
"It was a cracking game," coach Tony Cigana said.
"We played with 10 each and it was great to get a result after a pretty tough run."
