Australia Post promotes the hobby during August and five $1 stamps created around the theme 'In the Garden' are now available.
An ambassador of the month is Stephanie Alexander, the face behind the popular kitchen garden program.
"The theme providers students and teachers across the country with the opportunity to learn more about environmental sustainability," she said.
Wodonga's post services officer Kiley Harvey encouraged others to get involved in the collecting.
"Stamp collecting is such a fantastic hobby, and when it's combined with teaching young people how to look after the environment, that's a win-win," she said.
Year 6 student Travis Lewis-Anstis, 11, learned about the new stamps on Tuesday.

He and his peers have just harvested produce from their garden and most recently created mini cabbage pies.
"I like it when we get to cook with the vegetables," he said.
The stamps feature a rainwater garden, nest box, worm farm, pollinators and a veggie garden.
