The Lions Club is encouraging Border high school students to be inventive with recycled materials, to "create a look for the Albury Gold Cup".
"This was done about two years ago ... what they come up with was amazing," president Denise Jelbart said.
"There's so many intelligent young people in our schools.
"They used plastic, scraps of material, and 90 per cent were all things you would throw away.
"Some of the dresses they made were absolutely beautiful."
With the support of the Commercial Club, prizes will be awarded at an event there on Wednesday, August 28.
Entry is $5 for adults.
Ms Jelbart said Albury Council was also supporting the project.
"You could make the total look, or an accessory," she said.
