Wilson was targeted by several Ovens and Murray clubs before the 23-year-old opted to return to the Roos as an assistant-coach.
His brother and Murray Bushrangers co-captain, Cameron, will also play at John Foord Oval next season.
"From a football club point of view we are really excited to bring two quality midfielders into our side," coach Marc Almond said.
"We feel we have been building pretty well even though the win-loss mightn't reflect that.
"We're a lot further advanced than last year.
"The club is really happy they have chosen us as we know other Ovens and Murray clubs have spoken to Damien in particular. "We feel like it's a bit of a win for the little guys.
"It's something we have put a lot of time into because we believe Damien and Cameron will be great for the club."
Wilson played his junior football at CDHBU before joining Corowa-Rutherglen and playing two-and-a-half seasons of senior football under Shaun Mooney, Adrian Pavese and Bryce Campbell.
He has spent the past three years coaching Rutherglen and is clearly the best under-25 midfielder in the Tallangatta and District league.
"I just felt Corowa-Rutherglen fitted best for myself and my partner Kate," Wilson said.
"We have twins on the way and family ties back at Corowa.
"It's exciting to be going back.
"I'm really hoping to help the club get back to the pointy end of the ladder."
Wilson will join Rohan Davies as playing assistant-coach with Scott Montgomery and Jamie Almond non-playing assistants.
Cameron and AFL draft certainty Lachie Ash are co-captains of the Murray Bushrangers this season.
He has been a strong contributor as a small forward and midfielder for coach Mark Brown.
