The Hoppers looked the better side for most of the match before their opponents hit back and momentarily grabbed the lead in the final term.
Anna Avery turned back the clock with a vintage display, Elkie Turner was consistent and Kath Fryer made several crucial intercepts in defence.
"I was really happy to win," coach Erika O'Connell said.
"It probably shouldn't have been as close as it was as we went off the boil towards the end of the third and start of the fourth but everyone pulled their head in and we went back to what we know works with our structures. "We composed ourselves late which was pleasing.

Rutherglen defeated Kiewa-Sandy Creek 34-33 in Saturday's qualifying final.
In one of the matches of the season, the Cats held their nerve late with Emily Browne critical in the mid-court.
Rutherglen take on ladder leader Thurgoona on Saturday while Tallangatta meet Kiewa-Sandy Creek.
