And it all centers around Irish music.
In a last-minute decision to write a tune for her father Joe's birthday, Ailish has gone on to receive a third place half a world away at the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, or The All Ireland music competition.
I couldn't believe it really - It is pretty special to kind of follow in dad's footsteps
- Ailish Moran
"It is called Dad's 43rd and I didn't really think it would be any good until it all came together," Ailish said.
"And dad loved it so much we decided to enter it in the newly composed tunes category which is up against anyone of any age from anywhere in the world and I came third.
"I couldn't believe it really. It is pretty special to kind of follow in dad's footsteps because he got two gold at the same music competition a few years ago."
The Morans believe Irish music is "a language of its own" and despite being on the other side of the world in Wodonga, Ailish said "it is pretty special" to her.
"I like playing with dad and learning new tunes and instruments," she said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"Irish music is easier to learn than say French or something because to some people it comes quite fluently.
"It was pretty hard for me at the start but it has definitely gotten easier.
"So to have one tune mean so much to me and go and get a place in Ireland is really special."
Ailish said she started playing and loving music when she was four.
"I started on the whistle and then only a couple of years ago I started on the concertina," she said.
"For the competition, because we aren't there, we get someone to play on our behalf and my really good friend and pen pal played my tune on the concertina - she is really good at it.
"We have known each other for a while but we kind of became really close again when we went to Ireland last year and we played a lot of tunes then."
