Walla life member Merv Wegener has been named one of several nominees from the region put forward for the inaugural NSW Australian Football Hall of Fame.

Wegener is alongside border Sydney Swans champion Brett Kirk and North Albury 50-year All-Star team member Bill Barton who have also been recognised in the first round of nominations.
The NSW Australian Football Hall of Fame will take place in 2020 and is still open for further nominations after receiving more than two hundred from across the state.

"It's expected that this region will figure prominently in the NSW Australian Football Hall of Fame," Hall of Fame selection member Greg Verdon said.
"The Strang brothers and Brett Kirk from Albury, John Longmire from Corowa and Leon Higgins from Tocumwal have all had outstanding AFL careers.
"Merv Wegener from Walla has been an outstanding administrator in the Hume league along with Gary O'Connell from Osborne.
"The Murray order region has been a prime recruiting ground for VFL/AFL clubs for many generations and has also produced many fine administrators."
The Hall of Fame recognises candidates at any level of Australian football.
Nominations are set to close on September 6, 2019 and can be submitted online.
