The tick of approval from the not-for-profit foundation means Albury-based filmmaker Helen Newman can now officially fundraise for the project that bravely "steps into the gaping hole left when a person dies by suicide".
The film aims to begin conversations, unite communities and ignite positive change in the areas of mental health and suicide awareness.
Solstice, the documentary, tells the story of those on the frontline trying to create change at community, medical and policy levels.
Albury's Annette and Stuart Baker founded the first solstice event on June 21, 2013 after their 15-year-old daughter Mary took her life.
"It is the survivors of suicide who find themselves on the front line fighting for better mental health care," a teaser for the film says.
Mr Baker said he believed "the mood of the population is we want something done about this".
In the documentary Mrs Baker reflects that if a person dies of cancer there is a Relay for Life.
"I guess I really think the Winter Solstice is our Relay for Life," she said.
