The man had been back country skiing with a group of people on the mountain on Thursday.
He fell and became injured.
Police, SES volunteers and paramedics reached the man but he died about 6.30am on Friday.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
EARLIER: Emergency services remain on scene at Mt Bogong, amid reports a man has died.
Bright SES unit controller Roy Kennedy said six team members have spent a cold night on the mountain after being called to the scene at 5.47pm on Thursday.
Mr Kennedy said the SES were called to Eskdale Spur near Michell Hut to assist Ambulance Victoria members after receiving a report someone had fallen.

SES members trained in alpine and technical rescues spent the night on the mountain.
Mr Kennedy said it would have been a long night, with temperatures dropping to minus six.
Mr Kennedy could not give any details about the condition of the person involved, as the matter is now in the hands of Victoria Police.
An air ambulance was dispatched.
