Ashan Ranaweera was interviewed by police two days after the alleged rape and claimed it was the girl who instigated the sexual encounter in the early hours of Boxing Day morning 2017.
The video recording of that interview was played to the jury in Wangaratta County Court on Tuesday.
Ranaweera told police the 18-year-old instigated their sexual encounter.
She and her friend planned to sleep on the trampoline at the Mount Beauty house after the Christmas party.
"I said 'I'm going home', they said 'you can't go home, you have to stay'," Ranaweera said.
He lived at the property over the rear fence and continued to message the alleged victim.
Messages show the girl asked Ranaweera to bring her a beer - he responded by inviting her to his place, then asked her to bring him his phone charger.
Prosecutor Andrew Moore, in his closing address, said the 18-year-old was drunk and unsteady on her feet when she went to Ranaweera's house with the charger.

She gave evidence he told her they were going back to the neighbours' trampoline, but instead took her to the bedroom.
"This is a case of an older man opportunistically taking advantage of this younger woman, knowing she was intoxicated," he said.
"He wanted to get her back to his place to satisfy himself and he did just that in pretty quick time."
He said the evidence showed the 18-year-old emotionally fell apart after the alleged rape and immediately reported what happened to a friend, a nurse at the hospital, then police.
"There must have been an extremely traumatic event that occurred to her inside that house, inside that bedroom," Mr Moore said.
"She gave no indication she wanted to have sex with him."
The alleged victim said she was frozen in fear during the sex, but Ranaweera told police she was dancing, grabbed him and kissed him.
"She took me to the room and we had sex," he said.
"I don't know why she started like that."
He said "she's very happy" during sex and was kissing and grabbing him, but appeared angry afterwards.
"She doesn't talk to me and she just goes straight away," Ranaweera said.
The video recording showed the police detective leave the room to get a piece of paper, when Ranaweera told her colleague it was just a case of "wrong place, wrong time".
"It just happens with a party like that," he said.
Claims man was falsely accused
One of the charges of rape laid against Ashan Ranaweera has been discharged before the jury starts deliberating on a verdict.
Judge Mandy Fox ruled on Tuesday that the prosecution had not proved there was penetration during the allegation of oral sex, as is required in the law.
The jury will be still be asked for their verdict on two other counts of rape and two counts of sexual assault, to which Ranaweera has pleaded not guilty.
Ranaweera's defence barrister John Lavery said he understood there was a prevalence of reporting of sexual offences, including high-profile cases.
"There are also false allegations, there are people who are falsely accused," he said.
He said his client would not have admitted the girl had become angry if he was making up a story, saying the sex was "clearly consensual", and argued she could have been worried people would find out about the sexual encounter with Ranaweera.
"It puts her in the position of being a victim, rather than a participant," Mr Lavery said.
"If she didn't want to be in his bedroom, why didn't she say so? ... She could have said 'no'."
The jury is expected to start deliberating on Tuesday.
