North Albury bowlers provide valuable donation to Kandeer School

North Albury Bowling Club has further strengthened its connection with Kandeer School by handing over close to $1500.

The funds were split from the club's annual Navy Day, with $935 going to both the Navy Cadets and the school, while the Hoppers' wrong bias tin total of $500 was also forwarded on to Kandeer.

Each time a bowler sends a bowl down on the wrong bias during the club's weekly social competitions (meaning it travels in the wrong direction from its intended target), the offending player must donate to the tin.

The donation from the bowling club went towards Kandeer School's new coffee cart and training of the students to use it.

"Anyone that puts a wrong bias down, they put money in the tin at the end of the day. Every 12 to 18 months we empty that and send the proceeds away," North Albury Bowling Club treasurer Lloyd Ronan said.

"All these blokes think they're good bowlers, but they've contributed to that (laughs).

"We've given money (from the wrong bias tin) to the Kandeer School in previous years and gave them this one too.

"They don't get much assistance from the government. They've got a good setup there, so any little donation helps them out a heck of a lot."

Ronan said a good relationship has formed between the bowls club and the school.

"They had 10 bowlers here earlier this year and they paid their money, but we decided to donate it back to them," he added.

"Some of the staff are going to come and play some barefoot bowls too."

Kandeer School assists students from the Albury region who are at risk of or are disengaged from regular mainstream schooling due to a background of trauma or emotional difficulties.
