The older model white Holden Rodeo came to police attention in Pearsall Street in Lavington about 10.45am on Sunday.
Police signalled the driver to stop but the car sped off.
Albury Highway Patrol Sergeant Steve Schausinger said the utility reached a speed of 115km/h in a 60km/h zone on Urana Road.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"A short pursuit entailed," he said.
"Owing to the approaching traffic, the pursuit was terminated."
A witness said the vehicle had been travelling at a dangerous speed and feared the utility would crash.
Police are working to identify the driver.

Meanwhile another driver will face court after drink driving while his licence was suspended.
The 44-year-old Lavington man was intercepted on Griffith Road about 8.30pm on Friday for a random breath test.
He returned a reading of 0.016.
The man was required to have no alcohol in his system due to holding a probationary licence.
He will face Albury Local Court at a later date.
