Telstra and the federal government announced on Monday the tower at Charleroi was live.
Regional Services Minister Mark Coulton said the tower provided "coverage to over 80 local premises and...an area of almost 100 square kilometres, including to sections of Lockharts Gap Road between the Omeo Highway and Tangambalanga".
Telstra's regional general manager Loretta Willaton said the move would eliminate a black spot.
"Residents and visitors are now getting continuous coverage through Lockharts Gap valley from Tangambalanga to Tallandoon," Ms Willaton said.
"This new coverage includes around 20 kilometres of major roads and new and improved in-building coverage for customers in Charleroi and Tallandoon."
Lockharts Gap Road is an area of fire risk and has been the scene of fatal vehicle crashes.
