He only ended-up getting bail when the court was assured he would stick to a mental health care plan.
His non-appearance led to defence lawyer David Rofe telling magistrate Rodney Brender that Ray would no longer be represented by the Aboriginal Legal Service.
With that, Mr Brender ordered that a warrant be issued for Ray's arrest.
Ray pleaded guilty in early September to a contravene an apprehended violence order and use an offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention.
His then lawyer, Laura Melhuish, had foreshadowed an application under Section 32 of the Mental Health Act to have Ray diverted to the care of mental health professionals.
This would have been considered before sentencing took place.
The incident over which Ray was charged took place on August 19 when police had gone to his ex-partner's Corowa home to arrest him.
Initially, Ray was nowhere to be found but soon after, police found the methamphetamine addict hiding behind a bedroom door.
Ray wasn't supposed to be in the house as this put him in contravene of an apprehended violence order in place to protect his former girlfriend.
He reacted badly to being arrested, pulling out a knife with a 15-centimetre blade and telling officers he would rather be shot dead than go back to jail.
It was just a few months earlier that Ray was facing court after being arrested for repeatedly attacking police and paramedics in the wake of a prescription drug overdose.
Ray launched his attack, back in July of 2018, after he had been admitted to the Corowa hospital.
He'd taken seven 300-milligram anti-seizure tablets plus other prescription drugs.
Despite being sedated Ray lashed out the officers and paramedics, kicking one in the ribs.
