The Indian community celebrated the Hindu festival of lights on Saturday night at the Wodonga Racecourse with more than 500 in attendance.
The Albury Wodonga Indian Australian Association hosted the two-hour celebration of diversity featuring music, dancing, food stalls and a candlelight vigil.
Committee treasurer Navish Kumar said they were blown away by the turnout.

"We are just really happy with the celebration and how many people came and enjoyed it with us," he said.
"I can't explain how well it went - everyone had a great time. We were really lucky we were able to move it and stay out of the rain."
The event boasted dancers from right across India including Bollywood styles.
"The audience really enjoyed our performances and we have received plenty of lovely messages," Mr Kumar said.
The Bhutanese community was also included in the event with the common theme "diversity through light."
