In only his second year of full-time driving, Boys broke through for a win two weeks ago at Sandown.
"Confidence is the biggest thing in sports in general," Boys said.
"Everyone has to work off confidence and when you don't have it, nothing seems to go your way.
"It's very much something that has a flow-on effect in your performance. But having said that, we are keeping our feet on the ground in regards to what we expect at Newcastle this weekend.
"We've had one good round where we ended up winning a race, but before that we hadn't been in the top five, so we need to set our expectations to stay in the top five and anything better will be a bonus."

Boys' recent form has been strong after a very difficult start to the year.
A stellar performance at Bathurst saw him drive from last on the grid to fifth when another car crashed into him, pushing him down to seventh.
He was also fast from day one at Sandown, setting the fastest time in practice and starting on the front row in both races, including pole on Sunday.
"The team have done a lot of work on the car during the year and it's improved a lot," he said.
"From Bathurst on, it's been really nice to drive. Some of the changes have also really suited my driving style too, which has been a real help.
"We think the changes should translate well to the Newcastle track as in some ways it's very much like Sandown."
The tight Newcastle street circuit has been a favourite of Boys' since it came onto the Supercar calendar two years ago.
Despite the high speeds and close proximity of the concrete walls lining the track, Boys relishes the challenge.
"I love the track, it's one of my favourites for sure," he said.
"As far as driving it, doing qualifying laps and that - it's awesome fun.
"I don't know too many drivers that don't like it. It's a strange setting to get used to because it's wall-to-wall and right on the beach, but it's really cool.
"Where you go down over the old railway line is so unique and then down the hill into hairpin is good too.
"I always look forward to Newcastle, we went really well there last year, finishing in the top ten, which for last year was like a win - so hopefully we go back there and get strong results."
Boys' Image Racing team owner Terry Wyhoon believes the rising star is one of the best he's seen.
"Keep it in mind, we've had a lot of kids come through and for the same amount of time in the cars, Jordy's the best I've seen," he declared.
