The Rural Fire Service issued an alert on Thursday morning for the Albury, Greater Hume, Federation and Berrigan shires.
The Bureau of Meteorology and Riverina RFS have warned residents smoke from large fires on the NSW North Coast could reach the district.
In an online statement, the RFS Riverina Zone said heavy smoke is again affecting large parts of NSW including the Riverina.
"This smoke is being blown in from large fires in the north coast and Hawkesbury areas," it said,
"This smoke may continue for several days."
Murrumbidgee Local Health District, which encompasses Albury, has also issued a thunderstorm asthma alert for the region.
Those conducting harvesting are urged to stop and check the weather conditions, the grain harvesting guide and their equipment, and only resume if safe to do so.
They are urged to check the conditions regularly.
"Under the current conditions, fires will start easily and spread rapidly," a spokesman said.
"They have the potential to threaten life and property, as well as destroying millions of dollars' worth of crop and equipment.
