The Australian Bureau of Statistics estimated both regions shed hundreds of jobs in the year to October, but only one gender was hit in each.
Total employment in the North-West and on the West Coast averaged 49,400 per month in original terms in the year to October, down by 900 from the monthly average of the previous year.
Male employment fell by 900, while female employment edged up by 100.
The 12-month employment average in Launceston and the North-East dropped by 700 to 67,600.
Male employment grew solidly by 700, but those gains were swamped by a drop of 1500 in female employment.
Greater Hobart added 800 jobs.
