Indigo Council chief executive Trevor Ierino revealed this week that a mistake was made when submitting the figures to the Know Your Council website.
Cr Bernard Gaffney used Tuesday's council meeting to ask Mr Ierino about the numbers.
Mr Ierino assured the shire's residents they were not actually paying more in rates than others in the North East.
"There was unfortunately an error in the Indigo numbers that were shown on the Know Your Council website, so we subsequently did the calculations. We can't change the numbers that are on the Know Your Council website," he said.
"Our figures have been recalculated and they're about $100 lower than what's been shown.
"We're not actually higher than Wodonga's, nor would we be in the foreseeable future."

The mistake was also acknowledged on the Indigo Council website, where Mr Ierino said the average residential rate for the shire in 2018-19 should have actually been listed as $1809 per property.
This is closer to the Victorian state average.
"I apologise for this error and trust that you still find the information the website provides as being valuable in comparing our performance with similar shires and the state average," Mr Ierino said.
He said the error occurred because the data was required to be entered manually.
"So the title goes back as the highest to Wodonga Council, is that correct?" Cr Gaffney said at Tuesday's meeting.
But Mr Ierino, who is Wodonga Council's former business services director, laughed and said "I'm not commenting on that".
"It's good for the community to know that we're not the highest," Cr Gaffney said.
Wodonga Council confirmed there was no error when its staff entered residents' rates for the Know Your Council website.
