In the past, it was almost impossible to do anything if you missed the number plate of a hoon who nearly caused a crash or decided to get aggressive with other motorists.
Now, there is often someone nearby capturing all this on video and willing to hand that over to the police.
And what we have seen this year, when we looked at our website clicks at The Border Mail mail website, is that you our readers really want to see this footage.
This story from court was the most popular on our website for all of 2019.
IN OTHER NEWS:
When newspapers across the country united in October for the "your right to know" campaign, calling for an end to secrecy and cover-ups, one of the criticisms was that it was often hard to get information from the courts.
We are grateful that in this case, the court did the right thing and released the footage for us to show to the public.
It is scary viewing that shows how dangerous aggression on the road can be, especially at 100km/h and when a truck is involved.
The footage, and the result of what happened to the driver, had a lot of our readers hooked - probably because it was so relatable. We have all driven on the Hume Freeway many, many times and could put ourselves in the mind of the truck driver.
Would we get angry, or be able to brake and steer ourselves out of trouble?
Thankfully in this case, no one was hurt and justice was served in court.
Police now issue call-outs for dash-cam footage when they are investigating crashes in the hope of finding extra evidence from the public.
As more people start using dash-cams, we can expect to see more idiots get caught and that can only be a good thing.
