The annual event starts on Thursday with six age groups, from under 12s to 17s.
CAW runs the five-day carnival with Wangaratta and Wagga associations also hosting games.
The Upper Murray fires have brought smoke into the Border and North East, while Saturday is tipped to hit 44 degrees.
"In the context of what's happening, we've got to make sure, firstly, that everyone is OK," Erdeljac said.
"I regard myself as a kid from the Upper Murray, I went to school up there, so the thoughts of the community and cricket community are with them."

As of early Wednesday, Tallangatta's Rowen Park was the only ground unavailable.
"We will be working closely with councils, curators and club presidents to make sure everything is fine," Erdeljac said.
"At this stage there will be a couple of ground changes and some games go to hard wickets, but the communities are working together."
