Upper Murray farmers have appealed for community help to immediately bring in hay for their animals in the wake of this week's fires.

Gina Sutherland, of Thologolong, said on Wednesday some farmers were in desperate need.
"From basically Burrowye Station up to Walwa it is black paddocks, it's just a moonscape and that goes to the top of the mountain," she said.
"This isn't heavy tree country, this is grazing country, mainly beef but sheep here as well.
"If we got a convoy of hay, even in wheelbarrows, even if they weren't allowed in, they could take it off and there would be local trucks and tractors that could pick it up and take it further on.
"We need help, manpower, to be able to feed out."

The property of Mrs Sutherland and her husband Peter had not burned and, unlike most neighbours, still had power and telephone connection.
But others lost hay and machinery in the blaze.
"We are a close knit community, Walwa, Jingellic and down to here, and we look out for each other if we can," Mrs Sutherland told The Border Mail.
"All the power lines are down, burned at the base and there's wires suspended all through the paddocks.
"Trees are falling across the road around us.
"The tree looks OK but if you look at the base of it, because the fire's been so fast, it sits and smoulders and the base of the tree falls over.
"At the moment my visibility is 100 metres, thick, thick smoke, I can't see the road.
"It goes all the way to Walwa, which is a good 50 kilometres of road, where there's just black and cows standing on the fences."
