Fires continue to burn at Mt Buffalo, Abbeyard, Hotham Heights and further east, but residents are allowed to return to Bright.

Upper Murray residents and those affected by fires in southern NSW are still prevented from returning to their homes, and many are unsure if they are still standing.

Laura Hogg made the decision to leave her Biggara valley home with her 12-week-old daughter, Audrey, after successfully warding off flames only metres from her home on Saturday.

While her property was saved, Ms Hogg said she was concerned about smoke in the area.

"We've been living there for six years, for those six years we've been talking about defending the property," she said from the Wodonga relief centre on Monday.

"Going into it, I was fully aware of the risks involved.

"But it definitely wasn't for someone lighthearted.

"If you were going to panic, you should have left."

Ms Hogg said residents had rallied together to battle the blaze.

Authorities recently confirmed a Tintaldra firefighter was airlifted to Wangaratta hospital with burns to his face on Saturday.

The injuries were not considered to be life threatening.

Sharon Roberts, who lives in Berringama, became emotional talking about the help provided by strangers.

Fire hasn't burnt in her area and she is still waiting to return.

"It's very stressful," she said of the wait.

"We've got a fire right on our back boundary at the moment, so we're just not sure what's happening there."

The number of properties lost is still unclear as the region remains largely inaccessible.

Across the border, NSW Rural Fire Service public liaison officer Brian Millar said the Green Valley Talmalmo fire was "well and truly contained" within its lines.

Authorities were on Monday working to get fodder into fire affected communities while communications, electrical supply and other essential services were assessed and repaired.

Mr Miller said he believed no homes were lost in Jingellic, which was yet to be confirmed.

"Our major focus for the next few days will be strengthening containment lines, particularly with the predicted fire danger on the weekend," he said.

"The fire danger ratings will increase on Saturday and there is still significant fire activity that may result.

"There are very strong concerns about the fires burning around Corryong, that they will jump back across the river."
