The Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup will "at this stage" go ahead on the Border next week as air quality continues to be affected by the bushfire crisis.

It comes as organisers of the Margaret Court Cup tennis tournament announced they too are pushing ahead with their event in Albury this week.
While the basketball cup will take place indoors, operations director Paul Gooding said officials will still take the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of all players.
"We've made the decision that we'll pursue it," Gooding said.
"With there still being around six days before the start time, we think it would be a bit premature.
"The one thing that's obviously a problem for us is the smoke hazard.
"If the wind goes in the right direction it could blow away within the next few days, but on the other hand, if it doesn't, then we'll be forced to make a final decision towards the end of the week.
"It's just a little bit early to make that call at the moment."

64 teams of young basketball stars are headed for the region for the week long event, with players from New Zealand already landing on the Border in preparation.
Teams from the likes of Tasmania and South Australia are also set to make their way over, as well as players from around Victoria and New South Wales.
Gooding said the travel arrangements of teams would also be considered in making the final call on proceedings.
The tournament is set to be officially opened on Monday morning at the Wodonga Sports and Leisure Centre.
Play will then take place across Wodonga and Albury, with the use of the Lauren Jackson Sports Centre as well as courts at Scots School.
Finals for the Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup are scheduled to conclude the event on Saturday, January 18.
Around 100 referees will also assemble on the Border this Sunday to take part in a training camp before the cup kicks off.
"They'll come in for an education camp at Scots school," Gooding said.
"There's a variation in ages with some as young as 15 through to more senior players, so there's different levels of education and it primes them for the event."
The Border region is set to have a good showing, with plenty of youngsters from the area representing teams from Victoria and New South Wales.
Fixtures have been released online for under-14, under-16 and under-18 boys and girls games.
