Margaret Court Cup given the all clear to start as scheduled

A decision was made by organisers on Wednesday to play the teams event on Thursday, before the tournament proper commences on Friday.

Tennis Australia guidelines for heat and air quality will be followed throughout and conditions constantly monitored by referees.

If the air quality index exceeds 200, all matches must be stopped, but if the reading is between 150 and 200, modified matches can played.

Meanwhile, juniors can't be on court if temperatures exceed 36 degrees, while 38 degrees is the cut-off for open age players.

"Today (Wednesday) we were at 190 and 183, so we could play under the Tennis Australia guidelines," tournament organiser Phil Shanahan said.

"If we get westerlies on Friday we could be back to normal, so it's just a day by day proposition.

"If it's between 150-200 (on Thursday), we'll go ahead with the teams event and play shorter games, but we won't know until each morning."

Friday's forecast is 41 degrees.

Players from 11 different countries will take part in the five-day event, with many staying for the Victorian Junior Grasscourt Championships, starting January 15 at Wodonga Tennis Centre.
