Values were commensurate with the quality and condition of the cattle and taking into consideration the ongoing bushfire turmoil, Corcoran Parker Wodonga director Kevin Corcoran described the sale as "steady and without extreme prices".

"The overall market sold to expectations with the heavier lines selling equal to current values," he said.

"The top Hereford steers sold to 310c/kg with most making between 280c/kg and 300c/kg.

"There was commendable buyer support, which was appreciated by vendors, many who have been recently affected by the fires."

Mr Corcoran noted the cattle presented in very good condition in spite of the conditions and again he said the vendors must be commended.

"It was a fantastic sale for the conditions," he said.

"I also want to recognise the great co-operation between NVLX and the agents in working to get the cattle presented in the vendors favour.

"The erection of the outside yards with water made the movement of stock a lot easier and eased the stress on the animals."

Mr Corcoran said the NVLX yards were better than any other facility he has worked in.

The best presented pen of Herefords, sponsored by the Hereford Society and judged by cattle buyer Graeme Ward was awarded to Jeanette McCormack and her son David, of "Muskerry", Bullioh.

Mr Ward noted the evenness of the pen, well fleshed and soft skinned and with all the necessary health treatments.

"The McCormacks consistently present top class weaners and it is a credit to them," he said.

The pen of 22 Marwarra-blood steers, 10 to 12 months and weighing 393kg sold for $1135.

David McCormack thought the yard weaned steers were up to ten kilograms heavier than last year.

Other good sales included 17 Herefords weighing 390kg 12 to 14 months sold for $1125 on account Mountain View, Walla.

David Hocking, Mullwood Partnership, Holbrook sold a line of 10 to 11-month black baldy steers weighing 451kg for $1300, while A.G. and G.M. Farrell, Cudgewa sold 22 Brewers Black Simmental-blood Simmental steers, 10 to 11 months and weighing 435kg for $1305.

In the heifer pens, NSM Herefords sold to $1250 when J.H. Nankervis, Corryong offered 16 Yavenvale-blood females weighing 491kg, and they also received $1270 for the pen of 13 black baldies weighing 481kg.

There was strong local competition underpinned by an export order, interest from Gunnedah and demand from feedlots.

Wodonga agents BUR, Corcoran Parker and Peter Ruaro Rodwells conducted the sale.
