Residents and firefighters extinguished the fire, which occurred in long grass off Krueger Street, about 9.45pm on Saturday.
Youths were seen running from the area.
Detective Leading Senior Constable Ian Deverell urged them to call Wodonga police.
"If you are involved in these fires, whether it was accidental or not, we'd encourage those people to contact police," he said.
