The drop will coincide with a pedestrian crossing being installed between the walkway to the Wilson Street multi-storey car park and the entertainment centre.
Council engineering chief Brad Ferris stated car parks would be lost from the street due to the crossing.
However, he tipped parking availability to rise on the strip by 55 per cent based on greater turnover due to the bays having a shorter time limit.
Meanwhile, a report addressing the beautification of Albury's traffic entrances will be on the agenda of the next council meeting on February 24.
The report will propose options to better tackle issues such as high grass.
