As part of the council's transformation of fleet of vehicles, 11 hybrid cars have been added to the mix.
In the next week nine Toyota RAV4s and two Camrys will hit the road aiming to reduce the council's carbon footprint as well as reducing the cost to ratepayers.
Field services manager Jamie Reid said 68 vehicles would be leased for council workers.
"Late last year Council made the decision to switch its fleet to lease cars," he said.
"We made this change because it will be more economical for ratepayers."
Council has no plans to further increase the number of hybrid vehicles as the 11 hybrid cars make up for the majority of its passenger vehicles.
The remainder of the fleet is made up of utes.

Although the council can't immediately detail what the cost savings will be, it is confident it will save ratepayers money.
"The full cost saving won't be known until after the first year but it is expected to make a significant saving," Mr Reid said.
"The benefits of hybrid cars are not just for the environment but also for ratepayers.
"The cars need less fuel and therefore cost less to run."
Of the 68 vehicles council is leasing, 28 are Ford Ranger utes which are expected to be delivered to council in coming months.
The hybrid cars were leased through Wangaratta Toyota.
