Wodonga's 150-year anniversary on Saturday night at the city's golf club attracted a bumper crowd of around 200.
"It was even better than we thought," delighted president Leo McGhee said.
"About a year and a half ago we set up a sub-committee to plan the event and they out-did themselves, they did an excellent job."
Traditionally, club cricket functions struggle to match the patronage of football events, so it highlights the rich history of Wodonga.
The former players saw a riveting game beforehand with Wodonga edging home against fierce rivals North Albury.

"It was unreal, the old boys were over on the hill watching," co-coach Cam Suidgeest said.
"It was nice to have the opportunity to meet some of the old boys."
The runaway minor premiers have a blockbuster top of the table clash away to Lavington on Saturday.
