A group against duck shooting has switched species and voiced their outrage over the shooting of cockatoos at an Albury golf course.

The Commercial Golf Club had a permit to cull 150 of the birds from its North Street course earlier this month which has left the Coalition Against Duck Shooting in "horror".
"With the catastrophic bushfires it is scandalous that cockatoos were subject to deliberate extermination at your golf course," spokesperson Alyssa Wormald said.
"Your callous slaughter of native birds has brought the club into disrepute and shamed and embarrassed your members.

"Cockatoos are highly intelligent, playful and gregarious species with strong social and familial bonds. It is a common misunderstanding that a large congregation of cockatoos equals an overabundant population when in fact it is indicative of harsh environmental conditions forcing them into remnant habitat.
"You must now take decisive action to prevent further negative publicity and community outrage."
Ms Wormald suggested the club uses non-lethal methods in the future including a Eagle-like device which scares the birds away.
