Powerage to pay tribute to Bon Scott at SS&A Albury and Moyhu Hotel

The lead singer of AC/DC (1974-1980), Scott left an amazing legacy of hard rock anthems for fans everywhere.

Riverina-based AC/DC tribute band dedicated to the Bon Scott era, Powerage will honour Scott during its two-hour show in Albury on Friday night.

Powerage drummer Ryan Nicholson said the band was the only tribute show 100 per cent dedicated to the Bon Scott era.

"We play all the early albums that Australians grew up with," he said.

"First and foremost we're diehard fans, we know what we'd expect from an AC/DC tribute show so we strive to give fans a show that replicates AC/DC's early touring years, which made them into the rock gods they are today."

Powerage plays all of AC/DC's early hits such as High Voltage, Jailbreak, TNT, Highway To Hell, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, It's A Long Way To The Top, Let There Be Rock and Whole Lotta Rosie.

Wagga frontman Kelvin "Beetle" Bailey, whose vocals resemble that of Bon Scott, formed the band in 2009 alongside Graeme "Lingo" Linquist and Phil Hogan, of the Albury-based band, Ledd Asprin.

Ryan Nicholson and Shaun Webb, from Albury rock band Idle Fret, round out the band.

"Bon resonated with not just Australians, but people all over the world due to his cheeky humour and charismatic energy," Nicholson said.

"He was the guy who everyone wanted to be mates with. He was all about having a good time and not taking life too seriously which is evident from his tongue-in-cheek lyrics."

Frontman Bailey rubbed shoulders with the members of AC/DC twice during their 2008-2010 Black Ice World Tour.

Together with his family, he was flown to Barcelona, Spain, to hang out with the rock icons backstage in June 2009.

When the band came to Australia in February 2010, they phoned the family home at Wagga, inviting Bailey and his family to come hang out backstage at the band's Melbourne concerts.

AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson even took one of Bailey's sons under his wing, exchanging email addresses and staying in contact.

When lead singer Brian Johnson found out that Bailey's tribute band was a Bon-Scott-only show, he jokingly asked him: "Hang on, what about my songs?"

Bailey replied: "I love your songs, Brian! I just can't sing that high, nobody can!"
