'Our Community Supporting Recovery' will run from 10am to 4pm at the George Kerferd Hotel with Bushfire Recovery Victoria chair Ken Lay, Indi MP Helen Haines and Patrick McNamara of the Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund speaking.
In a second section of the day, five trainers including psychologists Rob Gordon and Jolie Wills will workshop skills with participants.
This event is a joint project between Alpine Valleys Community Leadership and Susan Benedyka, who has been working on the idea since the second week of January.
"It started off with a coffee between Cathy McGowan and I ... by that stage I had my clothes and personal belongings in the car because there was an evacuation order," she said.
"I then approached Alpine Valleys Community Leadership, and said 'You've got over 400 graduates out there now, how can we prepare those community leaders to walk alongside communities?'
"We're in the very early stage of recovery, which is rolling up the sleeves and getting stuff done; the fencing, getting shops open again, and getting people back to work," she said.
"There's a lot more to recovery.
"Different people are ready at different times, and that's the reason this is targeted at community leaders.
"They're ready to hear these messages now, whereas if you're still trying to get your business out of the red, it might not be your time to hear this.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"By doing this training ... when those who are working really hard now on very high levels of adrenaline go through a slump, there are others ready to join and do what they need to do."
Ms Benedyka said generous sponsorship had covered costs including flying over Jolie Wills from New Zealand, and having videography to stream the sessions on the Alpine Valleys Community Leadership Facebook and create videos.
"There are people in Gippsland, Southern NSW and Corryong who can't make it on the day, but they'll be watching and we'll be able to put up videos," she said.
Ms Wills is a cognitive psychologist who developed and led the psychosocial recovery program after the Christchurch earthquake for New Zealand Red Cross.
She was awarded a Winston Churchill Fellowship to study how best to support the workforce resilience of those working in disaster recovery.
Other trainers are Anne Leadbeater, a community recovery expert, Malcolm Hackett, from the Strathewen community bushfire recovery committee, and counsellor Jill Hanlon of Social Works.
