An Albury man refused police bail over allegations he used a machete to attack another man has been freed from custody.

Telverne Rodney Williams has briefly fronted Albury Local Court over the incident from Sunday night.
Magistrate Richard Funston was prepared to grant the 53-year-old bail, but with strict conditions.

These include a requirement that he report to Albury police every day, that he not enter licensed premises, that he not approach any prosecution witnesses and that he comply with drug and alcohol testing.
Williams must also abstain from alcohol and, unless prescribed by a doctor, drugs.
Police are able to visit his Olive Street home up to two times a day and eight times a week in order to carry out such tests.
He is alleged to have attacked the other man during a party at his home on Sunday about 8pm, though the police charges say the incident happened anywhere between then and 10.30pm the same night.
Williams has not entered a plea to charges of wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and use, possess or attempt to threaten to use an offensive weapon with the intention of committing an indictable offence.
Police claim the attack happened while a group of men were "socialising" in the unit.
They allege an argument broke out between two of the men, one of them Williams.
He is accused of striking the alleged victim, 45, "a number of times" with the machete, inflicting lacerations and a fracture to his arm.
The court was told that Williams then ran from the scene, though was arrested at 10.45pm. The victim sought help at a nearby residence.
Williams must front court again on April 21.
