PLANNING work for a McKoy Street overpass of the Hume Freeway west of Wodonga is yet to start despite an expectation it would begin early this year.

However, while it is is federally-funded, it is the Victorian government that has the task of implementing the flyover and off ramps through its agency Regional Roads Victoria.
However, The Border Mail has been told the Victorian government is yet to have the funds promised at the federal poll released to it.
On that basis no work on scoping and design work has been able to begin.
The wrangling over the flow of funds comes as Regional Roads Victoria seeks to have the McKoy Street overpass considered in the context of its plans for the stretch of the Hume Freeway through Wodonga.
In response to Border Mail questions about a timeframe for the McKoy Street upgrade and the study, Regional Roads Victoria North Eastern regional director Steve Bowmaker was non-specific.
"We're in the process of finalising this planning study to improve transport links across Wodonga and traffic flow around the Hume Freeway between the Murray Valley Highway and the Victorian and NSW border," Mr Bowmaker said.
No indication was able to be given on when the study, which includes concept plans for a McKoy Street overpass, would be made public.
The McKoy Street overpass may be constructed further west of the existing intersection due to the proximity of the train line and United service station at the existing modified section of the Hume Freeway.
Safety concerns have seen an elongated roundabout and an 80km/h speed limit introduced to the strip.
