Labor MPs said the decision to adjourn Parliament indefinitely was not about shutting it down, but taking the time to consider what is a rapidly-changing situation.
The opposition pointed out that the next sitting of Parliament was for the budget, which appears likely to now be pushed back.
Euroa MP Steph Ryan was one of the MPs to tweet her displeasure, saying "The Andrews Govt is giving itself huge powers under State of Emergency but is closing down Parliament with no return date, limiting the people's ability to scrutinise the decisions of executive government at a time of an unprecedented crisis".
