With coronavirus forcing the government to shut down all pubs and clubs and subsequently wiping out the weekly Wednesday night competition, a crisis meeting was called.

Social distancing caused some logistical problems but players like 'Sugar', 'Jutty', 'Chief', 'Crott', 'Glenny' and 'Willy' weren't about to roll over without a fight.

Then one hit the bulls-eye - an online competition.

"We got a whisper this was possible to do so we thought bugger it and gave it a trial run last week," association vice-president David Williams said.

"Everyone had an absolute ball ... the boys were really happy with it."

Armed with laptops, scoring systems and video screens, players are gearing up for another "throw" on Wednesday night.

Williams expects organised chaos.

"Someone might play in their bedroom, some might play from their shed and others might play in garages," Williams said.

"There are going to be different set ups popping up everywhere.

"It doesn't really matter.

"There might be an app we can get as well to help things along.

'We will check that out.

"It's just an idea to give people something to do because as everyone knows there isn't a lot on at the moment."

One former Walla player - 'Crott' aka Daniel Mott - plans to hook up from Perth on Wednesday night.

"At the moment it's free for all," Williams said.

"It might turn into a mini comp.

"I don't think everyone in the comp can do it so we can't really make it an official comp at this stage."

Teams from Gerogery, Walla, Jindera and Brocklesby play in the association, with Walbundrie withdrawing when publican and association president Chris Langridge was forced to close the doors after 113 years last month.

With the technology far from perfect, Williams is confident over competitiveness and too much alcohol won't bring the scoring into disrepute.

"At the moment it's a bit hard to see on the screens where the close ones land," he said.

"It's a semi-honesty system.

"Everybody is honest out this way.

"Well, apart from one person anyway who happens to be one of my teammates,

"Hopefully with a video link or video stream we can zoom in a bit closer to see exactly what's going on."
