Memories 5 of Old Wodonga runs over 292 pages and took 18 months to compile.
It includes stories, documents, lists and maps of the first land purchased in Wodonga in 1854, then known as Belvoir.
Former Wodonga train driver Geoff Williams wrote an article for the book about the history of the train line in the town and remembers when about 200 people worked at the station and the locomotive depot.
He said when he moved to Wodonga in 1953 aged 24, he was immediately asking his co-workers the history of the railway, then recorded the information for future generations.
“There didn’t seem to be any written records at all then — we’ve got to keep the history alive,” Mr Williams said.
Wodonga Historical Society secretary treasurer Uta Wiltshire said she hoped the book would help people understand the history of the area.
“What we’re trying to do is generate an interest in the history of Wodonga,” Mrs Wiltshire said.
Memories 5 of Old Wodonga costs $20 and can be purchased from the Wodonga Historical Society building at 19 South Street between 1pm and 4pm on Wednesdays, or phone (02) 6024 1606.
