A long awaited commencement on the riverside precinct is among the big-ticket items in a $53 million capital works program for 2020-21 ticked off by Albury Council.

Design work and relevant approvals are inching closer to finalisation in the lead-up to a proposed start date early next year.
The key features of the development located near Albury Swim Centre are a river boardwalk, jetty, mooring point, improved carparking, picnic areas and better linkages to the Wagirra Trail, the city centre and Hovell Tree and Hovell Tree Park.
The Albury-Wodonga Farmers Market is also interested in having a presence in the area when works are completed.
Landscaping around Hovell Tree Park represent the first stage of the project followed by construction of the promenade and boardwalk.
The total budget for the project, which initially included a home for the Cumberoona paddlesteamer before its departure downstream to Yarrawonga, is $4.7 million with work being jointly bankrolled by council and the NSW Government.

A total of $3.9 million has been set aside in the 2020-21 draft budget.
Other capital works included for the upcoming financial year are $2.6 million for the regional skate park facility, $1.1 million for stage three works in the Lavington Sportsground redevelopment and another $1.1 million for the upgrade of changerooms and public toilets at Thurgoona Sportsground.
An overall $10.2 million has been earmarked for road projects including Keene Street works worth $1.5 million, another $1 million in both Mudge Street and Thurgoona link roads and $700,000 on Elizabeth Mitchell Drive.
A further $10.4 million will be spent on wastewater projects including Thurgoona's Brooklyn Fields housing estate stage three and $1.1 miilion at Wonga Wetlands.
An upgrade of the council's Kiewa Street headquarters has been allocated $500,000 and the Wilson Street carpark expansion project has received $200,000 for initial design works.
